The European Confederation of the Footwear Industry (CEC) gathers the footwear national associations and federations of the European Union. CEC is THE VOICE of the European footwear industry vis-à-vis the European Institutions and other international organizations and authorities.
Through the national associations and federations CEC includes activities and stakeholders of the whole supply chain: from the collection of materials and components to the more common objective of recycling; from the manufacturers and retailers to the educational and technological centers. Current Members represent approximately the 87% of the European manufacturing.
CEC’s overall objective is to boost the competitiveness and sustainable growth of the sector, while the most specific objectives include
- To promote the interests and values of the footwear sector vis-à-vis EU institutions and international organisations with regard to policies that have an impact on the European footwear. In international trade for example, we do not defend a protectionist European market, but instead we request for the opening of markets and the respect of a level playing field.
- To support research and innovation, through the participation in EU projects, which can help to adapt to the new globalization challenges like to contribute to climate change mitigation, energy efficiency, scarcity of materials, new business models influenced by the growing demand for data from our consumers; other consumer needs (ageing population, customization, etc).
- To foster employment and training, again through participation in platforms and European projects.
- To serve as a platform between all footwear players for the interchange of information and best practices, as well as common initiatives.
